Senior Mechanical Engineer

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be predominately responsible for electro-mechanical systems from concept design to manufacture.


  • Research, design, build, and test new AimLock mechanical components, sub-systems, and hardware from concept design to manufacture
  • Establish engineering design guidelines and processes to yield high-quality new work across the AimLock engineering team
  • Implement and train on product lifecycle management best practices that permit transition of design documentation to manufacturing
  • Develop testing specifications and verification methods for mechanical components, electrical to mechanical interfaces, and software verification of mechanical systems
  • Perform hand calculations substantiating design of mechanical systems for static and high-impulse dynamic load conditions
  • Assist in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical products
  • Create functional diagrams, technical drawings, electro-mechanical schematics, interface control documents, and other technical reports
  • Assess new products and innovations through prototype building


  • BS in Engineering discipline and 10+ years of industry and research experience in relevant field
  • Areas of expertise must include design for shock and vibration, test engineering for flight or automotive electro-mechanical hardware, or some type of high-speed instrumentation use to evaluate the performance of electro-mechanical systems
  • Solid understanding of core engineering concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, and stress analysis
  • Expert familiarity with SolidWorks design and drafting tools, tolerance stack-ups, load-path simulation, and implementation of GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5
  • Experience with rapid prototype design, analysis, and testing
  • Knowledgeable in the selection and specification of lightweight alloy and synthetic materials
  • Familiar with design principles, limitations, and benefits of additive manufacturing techniques
  • Some hands-on machining experience and ability to support fabrication activities along with computer-aided engineering (CAE) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) initiatives
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical teams, including development partners and vendors
  • Ability to pass and maintain a clear background check and drug screening
  • Must currently possess or be able to obtain Secret level security clearance


  • MS in Engineering discipline and 10+ years of industry and research experience
  • Additional desired expertise includes brushless motor selection, PID tuning, and mechanical drive-system design
  • Familiarity with the function and operation of commercial and military firearms (rifle, pistols, and variants), and some knowledge of both internal and external ballistics
  • Carbon fiber material selection and layup experience a plus
  • Some welding knowledge with ARC, TIG, MIG is desired, especially the ability to design and draft drawings in accordance with AWS A2.4
  • Proven experience with analysis tools like ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation
  • Familiarity and use of MathCAD to document hand calculations

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for more than 75% of the time.
  • Must be able to occasionally move about inside the office to access equipment and office machinery.
  • Must have the ability to move, transport, position and/or remove up 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to position oneself to move in a manner required to perform the daily work associated with this role.
  • Must be able to operate standard office productivity machinery and equipment including a phone, computer, mouse and keyboard, photocopy machine, scanner and e-fax.
  • Daily work environment and noise level is that of a standard office.
  • Occasionally you may experience, or be in the vicinity of, outdoor weather conditions at our Ranch location, although basic shelter from the elements is provided it is not constant, based on the scope of tasks being performed.
  • Occasionally you may experience, or be in the vicinity of, a noise level consistent with a warehouse work environment.
