Electronics Cable Specialist

The Electronics Cable Specialist will be responsible for leading the fabrication and assembly of all prototype cables and connectorized assemblies for AimLock experimental projects. Secondary responsibilities include assembly and installation of PCBA’s, troubleshooting assembled boards, and when required removing and replacing components on boards. This role will work closely within a diverse team of electrical, software, and hardware engineers, along with project and supply chain functions.

Range: $32/hr to $42/hr

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate electrical wiring bundles, pigtails, and cable assemblies which include a variety of connector types, including small crimp/solder circular connections common in embedded hardware for industrial and military systems
  • Lead electromechanical assembly tasks, from individual parts through complete assemblies, for AimLock projects and product families
  • Assemble and install PCBAs, while routing and connecting I/O within tightly constrained electromechanical systems
  • Support testing, verification, and validation from component level through higher level assemblies
  • Support debugging of circuits including digital, analog/power, and mixed-signal electronics
  • Provide schematic input and updates as necessary to the engineering team for incorporation into revision-controlled documentation
  • Kitting and preparing parts from inventory for fabrication tasks, when required

Requirements

  • High school diploma or technical degree from accredited school, civilian or military
  • 1-5+ years using soldering, crimping, and rework tools – having an IPC Standard J-STD-001 (Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies) or equivalent endorsement / certification is mandatory for the role
  • Hands-on experience building cable assemblies with ODU, Fischer, and LEMO circular connectors – knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 (Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies) is highly beneficial for the role
  • Demonstrable experience building cables with a variety of cable/conductor/insulation types, including shielding, grounding, bend radii, strand quantity and types, and impedance sensitivities for a variety of power and data transmission protocols
  • Experience repairing and reworking electronic assemblies and printed circuit boards – knowledge of IPC-7711/7721 (Rework, Modification and Repair of Electronic Assemblies) is highly beneficial for the role
  • Fluent in the use of power supplies, multimeters, impedance/continuity/insulation resistance test equipment. Skilled in the use of diagnostic instrumentation and equipment including oscilloscopes and function generators is a bonus
  • Awareness and best practices regarding ESD for sensitive equipment
  • Willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Openly collaborative with ability to create success within a team-based environment
  • Effective communication skills (verbal & written)

Physical Demands

  • The work environment includes typical computer related noise levels.
  • Exposure to LED video display terminals occurs on a regular basis.
  • Frequent use of mouse and keyboards is expected.
  • Occasional night, weekend, and travel to a rural facility for work is required.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds is required.
